At the outset, I wish to affirm our appreciation to all Member States that, in their statements to this Assembly, have stressed the urgency for progress towards the realization of a just peace in our region that allows for the fulfillment by the Palestinian people of their inalienable national rights.

السيد رئيس الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة،

السيدات والسادة،

تجيء فلسطين اليوم إلى الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة وهي ما تزال تُضمد جِراحها، وتواصل دفن شُهدائها الأحباب من الأطفال والنساء والرجال، ضحايا العدوان الإسرائيلي، وتبحث عن بقايا حياة وسط أنقاض البيوت التي دمرتها القنابل الإسرائيلية في قطاع غزة، فأبادت عائلات بأكملها، برِجالها ونسائها وأطفالها، واغتالت ذكرياتهم وأحلامهم وآمالهم ومستقبلهم، وتوقهم لممارسة الحياة العادية، وللعيش في ظل الحرية والسلام.

Mr. President,

For the second time in the course of a week, I come before the Security Council, upon the instructions of the Palestinian leadership under President Mahmoud Abbas, to appeal once again for the Council to uphold its Charter duties for the maintenance of international peace and security and to act forthwith for the protection of civilian lives, which are being lost and destroyed with each passing minute of the brutal Israeli military aggression being waged against the Gaza Strip. I speak on behalf of a gravely suffering people – the Palestinian people – who are enduring yet another barrage of death, destruction, trauma and terror at the hands of the Israeli occupying forces.  [Read more…]

Mr. President,

I wish to begin by congratulating you and your friendly country, Guatemala, on the presidency of the Security Council this month. I also convey our appreciation to Germany for the wise stewardship of the Council last month.

I thank the Under-Secretary-General, Mr. Jeffrey Feltman, for his briefing to the Council today and reiterate our appreciation to Mr. Robert Serry, the United Nations Special Coordinator and Special Representative of the Secretary-General, for his briefing last month and for his efforts on the ground on behalf of the UN and within the Quartet.

Special Information Programme on the Question of Palestine of the UN Department of Public Information

As part of its special information programme on the question of Palestine, the Department plays a lead role in organizing the annual International Media Seminar on Peace in the Middle East. A training programme for young Palestinian journalists aims to provide hands-on skills training as well as access to UN officials and diplomats.
