Excellency,

Despite the renewed sense of hope in the international community at the start of a new year, hope is regrettably absent in the Occupied State of Palestine as the Palestinian people have begun yet another year under Israel’s belligerent military occupation and the prospects to end this illegal situation and decades-long injustice are as dismal as ever. Throughout the holiday season and into this first week of this year, Palestinian civilians continued to suffer the brutality and criminality of the Israeli occupation, enduring daily civilian casualties, including numerous children and women, and intensifying acts of repression and collective punishment affecting every single aspect of life.

Excellency,

As the international community looks ahead to a new year with much hope and anticipation, the Palestinian people’s hopes are dampened by the deep despair and suffering they are enduring under Israel’s occupation.  Regrettably, the turmoil and deterioration of the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, continue as Israel, the occupying Power, persists with illegal, destructive and provocative policies and practices, exacerbating hardships, claiming more and more innocent lives, inflaming tensions and further destabilizing the situation.
