Statement by Ambassador Ms. Feda Abdelhady-Nasser before the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (4th Committee), Agenda Item 55: Report of the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territories, 11 November 2015:

Mr. Chair,

At the outset, I convey Palestine’s deep appreciation to the members of the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territories – Ambassador Amrith Rohan Perera of Sri Lanka, Chair of the Committee, Ambassador Ramlan Bin Ibrahim of Malaysia and Minister Counsellor Aboubacar Sadikh Barry of Senegal. We thank them for their efforts in upholding the Special Committee’s mandate, despite the obstacles in this regard – namely the continued refusal by Israel, the occupying Power, to cooperate with the Special Committee in violation of its obligations as a Member State of the United Nations – and for their comprehensive report (A/70/406-A/70/406/Corr.1) on the critical human rights situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and the Occupied Syrian Golan during the past year. 21 October 2015 – Danny Danon Lies at First UNSC Media Stakeout

21 Oct 2015 Ltr on DanonExcellency,

I am compelled to write to you today in response to recent fabricated statements made by the new representative of Israel, the occupying Power, Danny Danon, on 16 October 2015, at the United Nations at the Security Council stakeout. Not surprisingly, the statements made, particularly with regard to the State of Palestine’s school curriculum, were completely and utterly false. Danon’s statements about Palestine’s curriculum and textbooks and outright racist accusation that Palestinian children are “being taught to hate” are false and must be rejected.

At his very first UN media stakeout documented on the UN Webcast, Danon stated that “when he [referring to a Palestinian child] opens a textbook to do his homework he doesn’t learn about math and science, he’s being taught to hate.” He then picks up an image of what appears to be a photoshopped human anatomy image with the parts of the human body labeled and then images of knives placed on top along with the title “How to Stab a Jew”. Danon then has the audacity to state “This picture is being taught in middle schools, in high schools, in elementary schools”. [Read more…]

22 September 2015 – Israeli Escalation in Al-Haram Al-Sharif

Excellency,

In follow-up to our last letter dated 14 September 2015, I must continue to draw your urgent attention to the dangerously rising tensions in Occupied East Jerusalem.  The illegal policies and the constant provocations and incitement by Israel, the occupying Power, and its extremist settlers against the Palestinian people, their land and their holy places, especially at Al-Aqsa Mosque compound (Al-Haram Al-Sharif), continue to exacerbate tensions and religious sensitivities between the Palestinian people and the occupying Power and risk further destabilization of an already very fragile situation on the ground.  [Read more…]

20 August 2014 – Israeli Airstrikes and Killing of Civilians

Excellency,

Regrettably the cycle of violence has resumed and death and destruction are once again being meted out by Israel, the occupying Power, against the defenseless Palestinian civilian population in the Gaza Strip.

As indicated in my letter to you of 12 August 2014, even throughout the entire period of the temporary humanitarian ceasefire and during the course of negotiations in Cairo for a permanent ceasefire agreement, Israel has never abided by the ceasefire, persisting with flying its war planes above the Gaza Strip and with attacks by land and sea and now resuming its military airstrikes.

Over the past 24 hours, the Israeli occupying forces have carried out more than 60 military airstrikes against densely populated civilian areas in Gaza, killing at least 24 Palestinians, including children and women, and injuring more than 110 people.  Among those murdered by Israel in this onslaught were 6 members of Al-Dalou family, including Mustafa Rabah Al-Dalou, age 14, his mother, Wafaa Hussein Al-Dalou, and Ahmad Rabah Al-Dalou, age 20 when Israeli warplanes struck their home in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood of Gaza City. Also killed in that strike were Widad Al-Deif, age 27, and her 7-month old baby, Ali. The occupying forces also bombed the home of Allouh family, killing 8 members of the family, including children, women and men, and injuring dozens of others.  The dead included Mohammed Allouh and his two brothers, Raafat and Ahmed, as well as the wife of Raafat and their four young children.  Also killed in Israeli airstrikes were a two-year old girl, Nour Mohammed Abu Hasira, in Al-Zeitoun neighborhood east of Gaza City and Mohammed Ahmed Al-Abeet, age 16, and Sahir Al-Abeet, age 11, near Deir Al-Balah in central Gaza. The intensity of the Israeli missile strikes and bombings has again flattened homes and more civilians are feared dead as rescue personnel continue attempts to recover bodies trapped under the rubble. Right of Reply – Report of the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territories

Right of Reply by Ms. Feda Abdelhady-Nasser, Ambassador, Deputy Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, before the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (4th Committee),

Item 52: “Report of the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territories”, 11 November 2013:

Mr. Chair,

I apologize for requesting the floor once again, however, I am compelled to reply to the statement made by the representative of Israel in today’s debate.

As we stated at the outset of this debate, the report of the Special Committee is neither biased, nor one-sided. The Special Committee’s examination of the situation is clearly in the framework of international and relevant United Nations resolutions.

There is NO distortion of the truth.  There is no “discrediting” of Israel by the Committee; the Committee is reporting FACTS – facts regarding the egregious, systematic violations – many amounting to war crimes – being perpetrated by Israel, the occupying Power, against the Palestinian people under its occupation.  Its blatant, deliberate, consistent non-compliance with international law and its complete disrespect for the UN and the international community are what single Israel out.  And, yet, Israel continues to try to justify its violations, distorting the truth and attack those who speak it. Report of the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territories

Statement by Ms. Feda Abdelhady-Nasser, Ambassador, Deputy Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, before the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (4th Committee),

Agenda Item 52: Report of the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territories, 68th Session UN General Assembly, 8 November 2013:

~Check against delivery~

Mr. Chair,

I express the State of Palestine’s deep appreciation to the members of the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territories.  We thank Ambassador Palitha T.B. Kohona of Sri Lanka, Chair of the Committee, Ambassador Hussein Haniff of Malaysia and Ambassador Fode` Seck of Senegal for the report on the human rights situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and the Occupied Syrian Golan and the serious recommendations made therein.

The Special Committee’s report, along with the recent reports of the Human Rights Council’s Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967 and other UN bodies and agencies, including UNRWA, UNICEF, OCHA and ESCWA, portray with accuracy the critical human rights situation in Palestine as a result of the illegal, oppressive policies being pursued by Israel, the occupying Power.
